 Technology Skills and Requirements

1 Activate your account

Set up or reactivate your COCC account by resetting your password. To protect your account, your password must be reset every six (6) months.

NOTE: COCC will never ask you for your password. If you receive an email asking for this information, do not respond and forward it to abuse@cocc.edu immediately.

2 Enroll in DUO Multifactor Authentication

Duo Security is the multi-factor authentication system COCC students must use when accessing student accounts, including Canvas, student email, and Bobcat Web.

DUO utilizes a free web app for smart phones and other devices. Alternatively, USB authentication dongles can be purchased at the COCC Bookstore for $10.

3 Access your COCC Email account

As a COCC student, it is your responsibility to frequently check your email account for important and timely information from the college. Do not use personal email accounts for academic communication! COCC services and your instructors will only use your @cocc.edu email address to communicate with you.

4 Use Microsoft 365

COCC uses Microsoft 365 applications for course work. Assignments submitted by other file format, i.e. Pages, Open Office, Google Docs, are not accepted. The essential applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive and others) are available to COCC students for free.

5 Learn to use Canvas

Canvas is the Learning Management System for students at Central Oregon Community College. Canvas is where you may submit assignments electronically and enables instructors to share course materials, use communication and collaboration tools, deliver online assessments, and post grades and feedback.

6 Prepare to use Zoom

Zoom is a video conferencing system that COCC uses for remote classes, virtual office hours, and/or online events. Install the free Zoom app on your computer or preferred device before the term begins and review our tips for a successful Zoom experience.

7 Contact Student Technical Support

Student Technical Support staff members are available in person, via email, and by phone (541-383-7716). Do not struggle on your own - please reach out for help!
