Getting Technology Ready

Student Readiness and Technology Requirements

Ensuring you can fulfill the specified technology requirements and can sufficiently preform these basic tech skills prior to the term will be essential for your successful learning experience.

Review the following basic technology aptitudes and skills to succeed in COCC's web-enhanced in-person classes, hybrid, remote, and online classes which use the learning management system provided by the college. Follow the steps below and prepare for the term!

 Technology Skills and Requirements 

1 Activate your account


Set up or reactivate your COCC account by resetting your password. In order to protect your account, the password must be reset every six (6) months.

2 Access your COCC Email account


Frequently check your email account for timely communication, this is your responsibility as a COCC student. Use your COCC email address and avoid using your personal email for academic communication.

3 Use Microsoft 365


COCC uses Microsoft 365 applications for course work. Assignments submitted by other file format, i.e. Pages, Open Office, Google Docs, are not accepted. The essential applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive and others) are available to COCC students for free. 

4 Learn to use Canvas prior to the term


Canvas is the Learning Management System for students at Central Oregon Community College. Canvas enables instructors to provide students with access to course materials, communication tools, online assessments, grades and the ability to submit assignments electronically.

5 Prepare for Zoom class meetings


Zoom is a video conferencing system that COCC uses for remote classes, virtual office hours and/or online events. Install the Zoom app on your computer device in advance and know the tips for successful Zoom experience.

6 Contact for support and resources
