Student Readiness and Technology Requirements
Knowing the technology requirements and getting the basic skills ready prior to the
term is essential for your successful learning experience.
Review the following basic technology aptitudes and skills to succeed in COCC's web-enhanced
in-person classes, hybrid, remote, and online classes which use the eLearning platform
provided by the College. Follow the steps below and prepare for the term!
Preparatory Timeline for Students - Use this matrix as a guideline for your preparation
1 Activate your account
Set up or reactivate your COCC account by resetting your password. In order to protect
your account, the password must be reset every six (6) months.
2 Access your COCC Email account
Frequently check your email account for timely communication, this is your responsibility
as a COCC student. Use your COCC email address and avoid using your personal email
for academic communication.
3 Use Microsoft Office 365
COCC uses Microsoft Office applications for course work. Assignments submitted by
other file format, i.e. Pages, Open Office, Google Docs, are not accepted. The essential
applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive and others) are available to COCC

4 Learn to use Blackboard prior to the term
Blackboard is the Learning Management System for students at Central Oregon Community
College. Blackboard enables instructors to provide students with access to course
materials, communication tools, online assessments, grades and the ability to submit
assignments electronically.
5 Prepare for Zoom class meetings
Zoom is a video conferencing system that COCC uses for remote classes, virtual office
hours and/or online events. Install the Zoom app on your computer device in advance
and know the tips for successful Zoom experience.
6 Contact for support and resources
Student technical support staff members are available in-person, via email and phone (541-383-7716). Do not struggle on your own - please reach out for help!
