Poems to Honor Family and Place

COCC is proud to host Oregon Poet Laureate Kim Stafford, director of Lewis & Clark College's Northwest Writing Institute and prolific author of poetry and prose. When naming Stafford the state's ninth poet laureate, Governor Kate Brown described him as "one of our state's most generous literary teachers."

For this year's National Poetry Month at COCC, Stafford will present two readings with Q&A sessions in Madras and Redmond. In Madras he will be joined by past Oregon Poet Laureate Elizabeth Woody and Madras poet Jarold Ramsey.

COCC Humanities instructor Tony Russell will facilitate a showing of Bright Star, an award-winning film about the romance between nineteenth-century poet John Keats and Fanny Brawne near the end of Keats' life.
