Math Placement Level 1
There are three different pathways to the math course required for your academic goal.
Two of these pathways, Quantitative Reasoning and STEM, are intended for students
planning to transfer to a four-year institution and the third is for those in Career
and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
Math Level 1 places you into the Adult Basic Skills program (ABS). The ABS program provides a non-credit mathematics class in which students will work at levels appropriate to their abilities in preparation to transition to COCC credit math courses or meet personal and workplace goals.
The ABS Math course overs basic math applications, developing basic algebraic reasoning, using tables, charts, and graphs to interpret data, basic geometry and calculator functions, and math relating to life skills.
If it has been a few years since your last math class, then reviewing might be the best option before you start your math course path. A course you may consider to refresh and review your math skills in a facilitated setting is our MTH 001 AMP: Adjust My Placement course. This is a 1-credit course graded Pass/No Pass, which is intended to help students be successful in a higher-level math course than originally placed. By refreshing and strengthening your math content, you will enter your next math course with strong skills and confidence.
Your advisor will help you determine the correct path and course for your academic goal. More information on the complete paths is available here: Math Course Flow 2020-21
