With a Medical Assistant certificate, students are prepared to launch careers in a wide variety of health care occupations. Examples of employers include health care clinics, physician offices, and hospitals. Duties may include taking a patient’s medical history and vital signs, preparing patients for exams and medical procedures, and administering select tests or medications as directed by clinicians. Administrative duties may include maintenance of medical records, patient scheduling, and knowledge of insurance regulations, plus basic secretarial and receptionist skills.

Medical Assistant graduates can use their certificate as a launching pad for careers that require additional education. For example, some program graduates have used their COCC Medical Assistant clinical hours to apply to physician assistant degree programs.
