Collaborative, inspiring, and characterized by immersive learning, the Education programs at COCC provide strong, supportive starts to careers in classrooms. Offering an Early Childhood Education (pre-K) path and an Education (K-12) path — with four degrees and three certificates to choose from — the programs explore educational fundamentals within cultural and social contexts, ensuring that students gain a broad, inclusive perspective. With most classes capped at 15 students, the team-like classroom atmosphere nurtures confidence, builds close relationships, and readies students whether they’re looking for a quick career start working with early learners or a K-12 teaching licensure and advanced degrees.

COCC Education classes are taught at the Bend, Redmond, and Madras campuses, and a portion of the curriculum is available in Spanish; some courses also feature convenient online and hybrid formats. Field placements, a hallmark of the programs, help bring learning to life as students engage in weekly skill development in real-world settings, making workforce connections and discovering career options.

PROGRAMS

Central Oregon Community College offers a variety of different degree and certificate programs for students seeking careers in education and related fields. For students with an interest in early childhood education, including the early primary elementary years, the College offers courses and programs with a foundation in the theoretical, social, historical, and legal aspects of early childhood programming. For students considering licensure for K-12 teaching opportunities, transfer programs prepare students for direct work with young children in classroom settings, learning environments outside of schools, and transfer to four-year and licensure-based programs.

Transfer degrees at COCC prepare students for further learning. Among other options, Oregon State University-Cascades offers both a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with licensure. George Fox University, which has a Redmond location, also offers an MAT program. Additional transfer partners: Eastern Oregon University, Western Oregon University, and Southern Oregon University.
