Facilities Master Plan (FMP)

OVERVIEW

Since 1974, the College has conducted long-range facilities planning to assess College progress towards established goals and plan for future growth. This process includes review of existing space needs of facilities and grounds, and determining facility and grounds needs based on projected programming scenarios.

COCC is currently conducting a comprehensive facilities master planning process, producing a 10-year plan to guide the College while taking into consideration appropriate College design considerations, sustainability, siting and development of new facilities and renovation of existing facilities. Based on projected programming needs, the process builds on the previous plan and involves a Facilities Master Plan Steering Committee, the COCC Board of Directors, faculty, staff and students, as well as community members. Outcomes of the process include designating development areas, circulation routes, parking areas, gateways, and identifiable campus perimeter presence. The College is particularly interested in creating a facilities master plan that is principle-based and economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.

COLLEGE OVERVIEW

Central Oregon Community College, founded in 1949 as part of the Bend School District, is the longest standing community college in Oregon with the district formed in 1959. The 10,000 square-mile College District was established in 1962, encompassing all of Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson Counties, as well as the southern part of Wasco and northern portions of Klamath and Lake Counties. COCC is a comprehensive, two-year college offering career/technical education certificates and degrees, lower division transfer education, community education courses and a variety of speakers and events for the community. The College serves more than 16,000 students annually, and is governed by a locally elected seven member Board of Directors.

In 1962, a 140-acre tract of land in Bend established COCC's main campus, today totaling 202 acres. The Bend campus includes 26 buildings, totaling more than 671,743 square feet. There is also an off-campus location in Bend at the Chandler Center. In addition, on the 25-acre Redmond Campus, four buildings (84,000 square feet) serve students with a variety of career programs and transfer eligible classes. In 2011, COCC opened campuses in both Madras (10,000 square feet) and Prineville (12,000 square feet), providing classes and services to residents of Jefferson and Crook Counties.
