Veterans Day

Greetings Central Oregon,

While Central Oregon Community College (COCC) will be closed in observance of the Veterans Day federal holiday, it is an important opportunity for us to pause and honor both veterans and current service members of the U.S. Armed Forces.

On behalf of the College, I want to express gratitude for the dedication and the sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve our nation. COCC is honored to have students, employees, alumni, donors, board members and community partners who are veterans and service members. We also remember and thank our military families, each of whom make their own sacrifices on behalf of the United States.

If you’re interested in learning more about Veterans Day, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs offers a brief history lesson on their website that I encourage you to read. Veterans Day is also a wonderful opportunity to learn more about how you can support service members and their families year-round.

COCC offers Veterans Services for students (including education benefits and a resource center on our Bend campus) and a “Green Zone” employee training to empower faculty and staff to support student veterans as they transition from military life to a college environment; contact Veterans Program coordinator Bonnie Jordan for more information bjordan@cocc.edu.

Please join me by giving thanks to the veterans and service members in your own lives. To all current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces, we honor your contributions tomorrow and every day.

Sincerely,

Laurie Chesley, Ph.D.
Central Oregon Community College President
