Douglas-firs have the greatest latitudinal range of most conifers extending from 19 - 55 N and grow in a variety of climates, from coastal (maritime) climates to more extreme inland mountain climates. This is the largest of the PINACEAE family with the tallest tree reaching 328 ft. and the thickest in diamteter being 14.3 ft. The oldest is estimated to be 1300-1400 years old.
