Cornus sericea - Red-osier Dogwood

Red-osier Dogwood
Cornus sericea
Family: CORNACEAE

Native to northwest North America, this dogwood grows best in areas with well-drained, moist soils that are high in organic matter. Notice the opposite leaves with entire margins and prominent lateral veins curving towards the leaf tips (arcuate) which characterize C. sericea. In winter, the deep red colr of the bare twigs can be seen in all its glory.
