This native, evergreen shrub is commonly found on dry, sunny sites in the eastern slopes of the Cascades and south to California, Nevada, and Arizona. Check out the isofacial leaves of this species, which look the same on both the top and the bottom (or is there a top and bottom?). The fruit are small brown-black berries, described by the common name, manzanita, which translates from spanish as little apple.
