Student Literary Magazine
Submissions Accepted for Student-Run Literary Magazine
Be a part of history by submitting to the first issue of The Thread, COCC’s new student literary journal! The Thread aspires to create a space where creativity flows from the mind and soul. We honor the power of words, a quiet force in a noisy world. We give rise to those unknown writers creating pages full of passion. Whether it's a journal sewn by time, or a confession crocheted at 2:00 AM, we believe the strands of our diverse voices stitch a unifying thread.
Please see below for submission guidelines, but send us your flashiest fiction, your wildest poem, your most immersive personal essay. We're looking for the work you have been inspired to create!
The students in WR 299: Advanced Creative Writing will decide which submissions get published in the magazine during Spring Term 2025. Who better to help shape the creative landscape at COCC than the students themselves, right?
Thank you for sharing your writing with us! We know there's an incredible amount of creative talent here on campus, and we can't wait to showcase it.
Submission Guidelines:
- We consider previously unpublished, original works of creative nonfiction, fiction, and poetry by current COCC students.
- You may submit up to one entry per category.
- There is a maximum of 3000 words per entry. Excerpts of a longer work, like a novel or memoir are permitted, but they should be self-contained.
- Submission files should include a title at the top but your name should not appear anywhere on the document.
- We do accept simultaneous submissions (if you have submitted a piece to another journal at the same time), but if your piece is accepted elsewhere, please inform us as soon as possible that you are withdrawing it from our consideration.
- If you have submitted something to the COCC Student Writing Contest, you can also submit that same piece to the literary journal.
- We don’t currently offer payment to writers for accepted pieces beyond publication in our online magazine.
Submission Deadline:
- Friday, May 9th by 11:59 PM
- Submissions accepted via this Google Form
- You will be notified by the end of May if your piece has been accepted or not.
