Welcome

Annemarie Hamlin - Vice President of Academic Affairs

Greetings, New Faculty Member!

Welcome to Central Oregon Community College (COCC)! Let me extend my warmest welcome to you and share a little about our commitment to excellent instruction at COCC.

At COCC, teaching is the center of what we do, and you are joining the ranks of a strong cadre of faculty who—like you—are high quality, dedicated instructors whose priority is student success. The experience and expertise you bring to our classrooms enriches the programs we offer and prepares our students for careers and transfer to four-year universities.

COCC is mission-driven: “COCC empowers student and engages communities through high-quality, equitable and accessible lifelong education.” Our values include empowering students; championing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging; and engaging our communities. In total, we have eight institutional values about which you can find more information on our website. There you will also find our Strategic Plan, which describes our goals and action projects over the next four years. In Academic Affairs, we provide support to our faculty so that you are able to focus on your teaching. Your department chairs, the instructional deans, and I are all eager to assist you through the onboarding process and help you settle into to your role as a faculty member.

In this orientation, you will learn about a variety of teaching support resources, and I encourage you to explore those and reach out for help when needed. You will also learn about opportunities to deepen your own knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. For a start, please see our Principles of Community, which provide a gateway to understanding the culture of COCC and what we value in our interactions with one another and with students. As a community, we take a strong stance against bias and hatred and we promote a supportive and inclusive community.

I hope that the deans and I will have the opportunity to meet you and get to know you as you settle in to your work at COCC. I am excited about our future, and I see positive growth in our ability to serve students and the workforce needs of our region. You are part of our community, and we value your contributions toward fulfilling our mission.

Sincerely yours,

Annemarie E. Hamlin
