The Chemistry Team completes major self-assessment

This summer the chemistry department, spearheaded by Dr. Zelda Ziegler, completed a departmental self-study for the governing body of chemists, the American Chemical Society (www.acs.org) to help facilitate the identification of strengths and opportunities for growth in our department. This is the second time that COCC participated in this self-study program, the first time was in 2012. As a result of the first review, the chemistry department was able to implement many of the excellent suggestions from the previous report and were eager to participate in this second round. The current report, published this January, highlights strengths in the chemistry program at COCC, such as the quality of the faculty, effective pedagogy, extensive availability of instrumentation for students, and the successful changes that were made after the first report. The report also included some areas where we might be able to improve, such as forming a department mission statement. The chemistry department at COCC will be using this report as a guide as we move forward into the Academic Year 2016/2017.
