Sample Plan For Students Planning to Enter Program Classes in Fall of 2020

Note. The Sample Plan is for the rapid pathway, but students are encouraged to choose the prerequisite pathway the best meets their goals  from the following three options :

1. A rapid pathway for direct entry into the field. Prerequisites are condensed and focused on the needs of the students seeking CTE coursework. These prerequisites can be completed in Spring or Summer Term.   Students are encouraged to start Spring Term. (Total prerequisite credits 14-18).

    • AH 114 Intro to Pathophysiology (5cr)
    • AH 105 Calculations for Allied Health (3cr)
    • BA 214 Business Communications (3cr)
    • BI 105 Essentials of Human Biology (3cr)
    • CIS 120 Computer Concepts Or Computer Competency Test (0-4)
  1. A pathway with more transferable credits for those pursuing advanced degrees (Total prerequisite credits 25-29).
  • AH 114 Intro to Pathophysiology (5cr)
  • MTH 105 Math in Society (4cr)
  • WR 121 Academic Composition (4cr)
  • BI 231 & 232 & 232 Anatomy and Physiology I,II &III (12cr)
  • CIS 120 Computer Concepts Or Computer Competency Test (0-4)
  1. A single-course option for students who have completed the COCC Nursing Program prerequisites.
  • AH 114 Intro to Pathophysiology (5cr)

 

 

Note the following information applies to possible substitutions for MA program prerequisites:

BI 121 + BI122 (Anatomy and Function I &II can be substituted for BI231 +232+233 or BI105)

Math higher than MTH105 can be substituted for MTH 105 or AH 105)

AH 111+AH112+AH113 (Medical  Terminology I &II and Introduction to Study of Disease) can be substituted for AH 114

WR 121 can be substituted for BA 214

First, Complete Prerequisites (students are encouraged to start by spring term of year one if possible)

AH 114 Intro to Pathophysiology (5cr)

AH 105 Calculations for Allied Health (3cr)

BA 214 Business Communications (3cr)

BI 105 Essentials of Human Biology (3cr)

CIS 120 Computer Concepts Or Computer Competency Test (0-4)

 

Then, Start Program Classes in the Fall (Complete Program and Other Required Classes)

Fall

MA 110 Intro to Clinical Med Assisting (7cr)

MA 111 Introduction to Professional Medical Assisting (5cr)

MA 150 Pharmacology for Medical Assistants (3cr)

 Winter

MA 120  Clincal Medical Assisting II (7cr)

MA 121 Administrative Medical Assisting (5cr)

MA 140 Nutrition, CPR and First Aid for Medical Assistants (3cr)

 Spring

MA 137 Applic of Prof Med Assisting (4cr)

MA 147 Medical Assisting Practicum (5cr)

*AH 115 Cultural Responsiveness in Allied Health  or PSY 215 Developmental Psychology (3-4 cr)

*AH115 or PSY215 are not prerequisites.  One of these classes must be completed prior to graduation.  Students are encouraged to complete one of these classes prior to entering program classes if time allows.
