Computer and Information Systems (CIS)

Why study Computer and Information Systems?

Connecting hands-on learning with the latest in technical certifications, COCC's Computer and Information Systems (CIS) department offers a comprehensive education taught by industry-versed instructors, in both CIS and Computer Science. Many of the programs' stackable credentials are available fully online. These include CAD, IT, network and web development, cybersecurity, and software engineering, all taught with current tech platforms.

Resources include innovative on-campus and cloud-based networking labs, private cloud storage, accessible instructors, and an integrated learning environment with the College's IT department, plus a host of industry relationships. For technical and programming language fundamentals or career-driven studies in a fast-growing sector, from basic to advanced skills, the CIS department helps students thrive in the fascinating world of computer technology.

"The professors in CIS have some great experience and access to businesses around this area. I have already gotten a lot of opportunities to get my foot in the door." – Zach Dehnert, CIS student at COCC

"When I first began my CIS degree, I didn't really know a lot about the field or the jobs it could lead to. I took a course called Introduction to Programming at COCC and it definitely changed my life. I fell in love with it and having something I was so interested in turned my life around. I've always enjoyed working hard, but now I have something I wake up excited to work on every day." – Brett Bascom, Software Development Engineer in Test, Kollective Technology, and COCC graduate
