New Residence Hall Opens at COCC

Update: The Residence Hall is Now Open!
Applications for 2016-2017 academic year housing will be available April 1.

In fall 2015, Central Oregon Community College opened its new residence hall - welcoming students from across the College's district and throughout the country, as far away as Florida.

The new facility houses 320 students in single or double bedroom "semi-suite" rooms with a small living area and shared bathroom. The building also includes community lounges and study spaces located on every floor. These spaces have seen heavy use by the first residents to enjoy the space.

Danika Hendriksen, a graduate of Silverton High School, chose to live in the new residence hall because she decided that living on campus would provide the quintessential college experience. Plus, she says, the view of the mountains is phenomenal. "It was a guaranteed community I could be involved in and where I could find a group of friends," said Danika. "I would tell people who are contemplating living in the residence hall how much of a community this truly is."

Alicia Moore, COCC's Dean of Student and Enrollment Services, is excited about the student success opportunities associated with this project. "There is extensive research which indicates students who live on campus have higher GPA, retention and graduation rates than their peers who live off campus. Creating such opportunities is critical for the success of our students," said Moore. Moore also emphasized that an expanded residence life program will create greater opportunities for students to build connections with campus faculty, staff, programs and services, thereby positively impacting their overall college experience.

COCC's new residence hall is centrally located on campus and adjacent to the Barber Library, Coats Campus Center and Mazama Gymnasium, creating a "hub" for student support services, greatly improving the student experience.
