"My personal experience at COCC has been welcoming, friendly and highly encouraging," says Paul Lopez. "Every teacher takes as much time as I need in assisting me to fully understand each subject. The teachers are thorough in explaining how the education applies to real-life business
Paul says that everyone on campus is polite and willing to help, from administrators to the librarians, teachers, advisors and other COCC staff members from whom he has sought assistance.
Paul is working on his associate's degree in business and is interested in a career in Internet security. He will be the first in his family to earn a degree. "It is exciting not only for me but for my family as well, he says. "I am so grateful for the support of my family and the COCC
Foundation scholarship making this possible for me."
Paul is also interested in volunteering as time allows. He worked with the Red Cross for a month in Beaumont, Texas, after Hurricane Ike. He has also donated time to a foundation for abused women and the Special
"The more I give back, the more thankful I am for what I have," says Paul. "I want to feel that my degree will not just benefit me, but everyone I am involved with."
Paul has this advice for those who are contemplating college: "Take full advantage of the opportunity to attend college and seek any career path you choose. There is no limit to what you can achieve or do if you just try and ask for help."
