Celebrating 40 years of supporting scholarships with a dinner to remember, the Central Oregon Community College (COCC) Foundation is hosting its annual Meal of the Year at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24, at COCC’s Mazama Gym in Bend. Last year’s event raised more than $347,000 in support of college scholarships; the Foundation aims to provide some $1.5 million in educational awards this year. Longtime COCC supporter Kirby Nagelhout Construction Co., responsible for funding over 50 student scholarships since 1996, is the event’s honoree. “We are both excited and humbled to be honored by COCC and the Foundation for our involvement with scholarships and education in the region,” said Jeff Deswert, the company’s president.

Meal of the Year attendees are treated to a four-course dinner prepared and served by COCC’s Cascade Culinary Institute students and chefs; in a new partnership, Mt. View High School culinary students are providing the salad course. The event features live and silent auctions with a range of packages and prizes.

“We are fortunate to have so many fine organizations to partner with in support of our mission,” said Zak Boone, COCC Foundation’s executive director, “and Kirby Nagelhout exemplifies the best of these collaborative relationships. It’s a delight to shine light on their great work in our community, and in support of student success at COCC.”
