At the Gallery: Inspiration in Found Items

Thursday, 4/5/2018 from 11 a.m. to 4/28/2018 at 5 p.m.

Pence Hall

Mixed-media artist Lloyd McMullen will exhibit new work at a show entitled, “So Far/As I Know,” at Central Oregon Community College’s (COCC) Pence Pinckney Gallery April 5-28. There will be an opening reception 4:30-6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 5, to include an artist talk at 5 p.m.

McMullen, of Bend, creates two- and three-dimensional “constructions” that integrate cast-off items. For this show, the artist explained, she used rusting, textured objects, found images and acrylic paints to create her work. “They explore the archeological nature of learning,” she said of the resulting pieces. Additionally, the exhibit will feature a collection of other mixed-media paintings by the artist.

A community arts activist, McMullen serves as a committee member at ScaleHouse, has worked with the Central Oregon Arts Association, and was a founding member of Artists Local 101. She helped create “Trashformations,” a community art event that challenged participants to make original work from scrapyard materials.

The Pence Pinckney Gallery is open Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the last Saturday of the month, noon to 5 p.m.
