A Latinx Heritage Month Event: "Ixcanul," A Film Discussion
The debut film by Guatemalan filmmaker Jayro Bustamante, "Ixcanul" (2016) is a depiction of the daily lives of Kaqchikel-speaking Mayans on a coffee plantation at the base of an active volcano. It chronicles a disappearing tradition and a disappearing people. Winner of the Alfred Bauer award and nominee for the Golden Berlin Bear award at the 2015 Berlin International Film Festival.
