Spring 2020 Services

Starting March 17, Barber Library will close until further notice. See Library Open Hours for updates.

The global COVID-19 health situation is continually evolving, and hours and guidelines may change. For the most recent information from Central Oregon Community College, see the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Information page.

To accommodate the closure, staff have made the following temporary adjustments to services.

Due Date Extensions

All library items originally due between March 16 and April 30 will have due dates changed to May 1.

In addition, all fines accrued in March and April 2020 will be waived. Fines charged to Bobcat Web accounts prior to March 2020 will remain unchanged.

Though the building is closed, you can return books at any time by using the book drop to the right of the front doors. Please do not use the book drop to return technology items.

Chapter Scans and Curb-Side Pickup

If you would like to receive a scanned chapter or article from a book at Barber Library, email Please provide specific details about the book and the chapter you need. Staff will digitize the pages and email them to you as a PDF file. The library will not scan entire works.

The library will offer "curb-side pickup" service on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 am - 12 p.m. To request a book or AV item for curb-side pickup...

  1. Place a hold request for the item in the Barber Library & Summit Catalog.
  2. You will receive an email at your COCC address when your item is ready for pickup.
  3. When you arrive at the library on a Tuesday or Thursday morning, call the Circulation Desk at 541.383.7560 or email
  4. Staff will bring your item(s) to the front doors. Please stand at least six feet away in accordance with social distancing guidelines.

Suspension of Physical Summit/ILL Requests

While the library is closed, the options to request physical items through Summit or Interlibrary Loan will be disabled.

You may still request fulltext articles from the library databases for electronic delivery. However, because libraries nationwide are closed or have limited staffing, article delivery may take longer than usual.

To limit your catalog search to eBooks you can read immediately, perform a search in the bar on the library homepage and then click the "Books" tab. In the eBooks box, click "More from the Barber Library & Summit Catalog." You can do the same to find streaming videos in the Videos & Audio tab.

Online Access to Government Information

Due to COVID-19 related closures, we are not able to provide in-person access to physical items in our Federal Depository collection at Barber Library.
