Blackboard Troubleshooting Guide

Problem
Cannot login to Blackboard
  1. Double check your username and password. Your Blackboard Username should be your student COCC email address, and your password is your COCC network password.  

  2. You may need to clear your browser Cache. You can visit http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser%27s-Cache to learn how to clear the cache for different browsers.  

  3. After clearing your browser cache, please exit out of all open internet pages and ensure that the internet browser app is all the way shut down. Then navigate back to Blackboard. 

  4. If you are still unable to login, please contact ITS to either reset your password or continue troubleshooting. ITS can be contacted via phone at: (541) 383-7716 or email at: techhelp@cocc.edu 


I can’t see classes that I’m registered for in Blackboard/ My Courses list is missing

After clearing your browser cache, please exit out of all open internet pages and ensure that the internet browser app is all the way shut down. Then navigate back to Blackboard. 



I need to reset my Single Sign On or Blackboard password
Visit the ITS Password Manager Tool site and choose the option that best fits your need. 

Course menu (left side pane) is hidden
  1. If you are using a mobile device, this is expected behavior from Blackboard. To see the course menu, tap the left edge of the screen. A small tab will appear to expand the course menu. 

  2. If you are using a desktop or laptop computerhover over the left edge of the screen. A thick blue line will change to a gray line with a tab where you can click to expand the course menu. 

Mobile Browser:

(Please use Google Chrome or Firefox)

  1. After navigating to Blackboard using the COCC student login page, scroll down to the My Courses area and click into your course
  2. If the Readspeaker button (square button with a play symbol) is covering the course menu button, click the Readspeaker button

  3. Click the Course Menu button (circle button with arrow symbol)

  4. This will reveal all of the course menu links that your instructor has made for your navigation

Blackboard Mobile App:

  1. After opening the Blackboard App, click the 3 lines menu in the top left corner

  2. Click Courses
  3. Click into your course from the list of courses
  4. Click Course Content

  5. This page shows all of the course menu links that your instructor has made for your navigation


Attaching files or Kaltura videos to discussion board posts, assignments, wikis, and journals
In any area that has the text editor, like in a discussion board thread or an assignment, click the “+” button to add a file or video to your post. If you do not see the “+” button, click the “...” button in the top right corner to reveal more text editing options:

In the pop up menu, scroll down and select “Insert Local Files” or “Kaltura Media”, then select your file to attach or next to a Kaltura video click “Embed



Cannot save test answers in Blackboard
The most updated Firefox, Chrome are the recommended browsers for both Windows and Mac users. Do not use Safari, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge browsers, these have all caused errors in Blackboard and in Blackboard tests.  

  • Check for updates before you start your test 

  • Do not use the Back or Refresh buttons while you are accessing Blackboard tests 

  • After each question click the Save button 

  • Check that each question saved by clicking Test Information at the top of the test, then click Question Completion Status. If your answer has been successfully saved it will have the question grayed out with a page icon next to the question number:

Accessing Blackboard’s default login page

As another access point for anyone who uses Blackboard, please open an incognito or private browsing internet window, then copy and paste this URL in the address bar: https://bb.cocc.edu/webapps/login/?action=default_login 

 

Log in with your issued credentials. You will be redirected to your Blackboard homepage. If you are redirected to another login page or a webpage that shows students walking on it, please follow instructions to clear your browser cache.  After clearing your browser cache, please exit out of all open internet pages and ensure that the internet browser app is all the way shut down. Then open a new incognito or private browsing window, copy and paste the URL in the address bar to navigate back to the default login Blackboard page. If it still does not let you sign in, please contact eLearning so that we may further troubleshoot with you.
