Blackboard 101

Starting in Winter 2022 term, Canvas will be replacing Blackboard as COCC's Student Learning Management System.

  • All Winter 2022 courses will be held on Canvas.
  • Log in to Canvas by clicking on the Canvas icon on the COCC Student Login Page, or go to
  • You can confirm your winter enrollments in Canvas beginning November 12th, 2021.
  • Learn the Canvas interface by checking out the Canvas Training for COCC Students course inside of your Canvas account.
  • For mobile access, download the Canvas Student App from your app store. 

Incomplete Grade Contract Students: Your Fall 2021 incomplete classes will need to be completed within Blackboard during the Winter 2022 term. Please note these incomplete classes will not be available on Canvas, only within Blackboard.

This series of tutorials is intended to introduce students to the basics of using Blackboard effectively.

Being able to access course materials, submit assignments, take exams, and collaborate with other students are essential skills for your learning in a Blackboard course. Be familiar with the basic navigation to kick start your learning!


1. Use updated Firefox or Chrome browsers to avoid issues

2. Blackboard Mobile App is useful for receiving notifications and quickly checking the course content. However, some of the tools (i.e. Wikis, Blogs, Surveys) are not supported. You will be able to complete these activities on the browser version of Blackboard.

3. Some classes require access to the publisher content such as Cengage, Pearson, and/or McGraw Hill. Please contact each publisher's technical support for troubleshooting.

View Feedback in the Blackboard Mobile App

Locate the Blackboard Course Menu in a Mobile Browser

(Please use Google Chrome or Firefox): 

  1. After navigating to Blackboard using the COCC student login page, scroll down to the My Courses area and click into your course
  2. If the Readspeaker button (square button with a play symbol) is covering the course menu button, click the Readspeaker button

  3. Click the Course Menu button (circle button with arrow symbol)

  4. This will reveal all of the course menu links that your instructor has made for your navigation

Locate the Blackboard Course Menu in the Blackboard Mobile App
  1. After opening the Blackboard App, click the 3 lines menu in the top left corneractivity steam open menu
  2. Click Courses
  3. Click into your course from the list of courses
  4. Click Course Content

  5. This page shows you all of the course menu links that your instructor has made for your navigation
