I am writing as a faculty member at Central Oregon Community College. When a statewide higher education group defined general education outcomes in 2009, they also determined the criteria for a community college to add a course to our individual general education as follows:

  1. The course must meet all Joint Boards Articulation Commission (JBAC) outcomes specific to its designated category (e.g. science or mathematics).
  2. The course must be at least 3 credits.
  3. The course must be numbered 100 or above.
  4. The course must be accepted as meeting a general education requirement in at least one Oregon public university. If the course does not align directly to a specific course name and number, it must meet the outcomes/criteria of the intended discipline, as verified by the Registrar at the receiving university.

I have designed this course to meet the statewide criteria for general education, it is at least 3 credits, and it is numbered above 100. Now I'm writing to you about the fourth requirement, to see if you can verify that you would accept this course as meeting one of your institutions general education requirements. Attached you will find basic course information including the course description, learning outcomes, and the anticipated textbook (since this course is in development, there is no syllabus yet).
