MESSAGE FROM COCC'S STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT
As the weather warms and people grow antsy, here's an important video message from ASCOCC's Student President Julia Russell.
COCC's Commencement is a celebration of your achievements and an important day for
the entire College community. Unfortunately, due to ongoing concerns about large gatherings,
we have made the difficult decision to cancel our traditional Commencement ceremony
this June. We know how hard you have worked to get here, and wish we had better news.
We do want you to know we plan to acknowledge your accomplishments. No matter what
we ultimately decide about a celebration, we will be sending your diploma to you,
once you have completed all the requirements, along with a program commemorating your
achievement. We will be providing more information as soon as possible.
COVID-19 STUDENT IMPACT SURVEY
Students in Oregon and across the nation are taking part in a survey to share their
life experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic and help shape the future of their college.
Please lend your voice to this important conversation by participating! If you are
currently enrolled for Spring term, look for a survey invitation in your student email
account. The survey is run by the Center for Community College Student Engagement at The University of Texas at Austin and will remain open through Friday, May 15.
IMPORTANT DATES AND DEADLINES
SUMMER TERM REGISTRATION
Summer term registration continues. Summer term begins on June 22.
FALL TERM REGISTRATION
Fall term registration begins on June 1. Are you ready? Find out for sure by logging
on to your Bobcat Web Account. Click on "Registration" and the "Can I Register for Credit Classes?" link. This
page will let you know if you have any hold (such as an advising requirement or an
unpaid parking ticket) and the day and time you can begin registration.
Students should meet via video with their academic advisors as soon as possible to
prepare for registration. Be aware that faculty advisors have limited availability
during finals week (June 8-12). Call CAP Services for more info at 541-383-7200.
AROUND THE VIRTUAL CAMPUS
COCC's Office of Student Life, Diversity and Inclusion, Club and Intramural Sports,
and other departments are working to provide students with activities such as music
events, author interviews and much more. Login to Blackboard, click on "Announcements," then on "My Courses" to find the latest updates. The annual
end-of-May Salmon Bake is canceled, but several virtual events related to the event
will be held May 26-30, according to Native American Program coordinator Michelle
Cary. Check for updates at the Diversity and Inclusion page.
CAREER CLOSE-UPS (VIA VIDEO)
Take a peek at COCC's health care careers through a one-hour virtual info session.
Nursing has four this month: May 6, 8, 20 and 27. Find out more about the dental assistant, massage therapist,
medical assistant, vet tech and pharmacy tech programs at a May 5 info session.
The 2019-20 FAFSA and ORSAA are still available for students who are attending COCC now through June
30, 2020. And if you're planning on attending COCC between July 1, 2020, and June
30, 2021, be sure to complete your 2020-2021 FAFSA and ORSAA early; early submissions have the best chance to receive the maximum aid.
Students not eligible to complete the FAFSA may apply for the ORSAA. A completed ORSAA is required for students who may be eligible for the Oregon Opportunity
Grant and Oregon Promise.
