The College is in the process of implementing a land acknowledgement, a small way to recognize the original people of the land on which we reside. In addition to being delivered at events and meetings on our campuses, the acknowledgement message will also be placed in framed documents hanging in all of our buildings on each campus. And you can be part of it. COCC is asking interested students to submit original artwork with a Native subject to potentially be incorporated into these documents, with a smaller version to be offered to employees to display in their personal workspace. Submitted artwork will be reviewed by a panel of First Nations Student Union individuals. Submit a JPEG of your work (2 MB or less) to Michelle Cary, Native American Program Coordinator, at Cary hopes to have submissions in hand "as soon as possible," so contact her with your work or to arrange a deadline. Keep on scrolling, 'cats.

Face coverings required statewide

As you may have heard, Oregon Governor Kate Brown declared that, effective today, Wednesday July 1st, all Oregonians must wear face coverings in indoor public spaces. While COCC's campuses remain largely closed for Summer Term (with the exception of some CTE classes), all COCC students, faculty, and staff—as well as visitors to the college for any reason—are now required to wear a face covering while inside any campus building for any length of time, unless an accommodation or exemption is legally permitted. A "face covering" is defined as cloth, paper or disposable, and must cover both the nose and the mouth.

COCC will provide complimentary disposable masks to any individual who requires one. If you need a complete list of related accommodations or exemptions as required by law, please contact Disability Services: or 541-383-7583. If you do not have a mask and would like one, please contact your instructor.

For the 2020 Fall term, COCC plans to offer some in-person instruction at all campuses, along with online, remote and hybrid options for students. The College's Reopening Task Force continues to meet several times a week to build a robust reopening plan ahead of the term. This group will ensure that all COCC policies and protocols meet the latest Oregon Health Authority guidelines, as well as all applicable state and local regulations. It’s possible that the College may choose to be more cautious than guidelines would permit us to be.

Summer Fridays: Beginning on Friday, June 26, all COCC departments and offices will close at 1 p.m. on Fridays. This schedule will continue through the end of August.

July 2, 5 p.m.: Tuition payment deadline and end of refund for full-term classes.
July 3: All campuses will be closed July 3 in observance of Fourth of July.
Aug. 7, 1 p.m.: Last day to drop full-term classes with no grade on transcript. Last day to change to/from audit or add classes.

Registration for Fall term is now open. If you are not yet registered, we encourage you to do so right away! Check to see if you have an advising or other requirement in your Bobcat Web Account (go to Student Services, Registration and "Can I Register?"). If you have an advising requirement, you should e-mail your advisor with information about your degree goal and class selection. Faculty advisors, however, are not on contract during the summer and many are inaccessible. In that case, contact the CAP Center at 383-7200 for advising.

Every other Thursday, join Tracy Dula, COCC’s Career Services Coordinator, at 3 p.m. to get a jobs report via videoconference. Dula will share current information from local employers and answer your job search questions in these live 30-minute sessions. Contact no later than noon on the day of the session to receive a Zoom link.

Looking to earn some money and learn about the ever-changing world of technology? The COCC computer labs are hiring Federal Work-Study students for both Summer and Fall terms. Wages start at $12/hr. Work a flexible, part-time schedule with convenient on-campus shifts. The position offers access to additional technology resources.

If you’re planning on attending COCC between July 1, 2020, and June 30, 2021, be sure to complete your 2020-21 FAFSA and ORSAA early; early submissions have the best chance to receive the maximum aid. Students not eligible to complete the FAFSA may apply for the ORSAA. A completed ORSAA is required for students who may be eligible for the Oregon Opportunity Grant and Oregon Promise.

The COCC Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2020-21 academic year. The online application is easy to complete and this year more than 400 of your classmates were offered full scholarships ($4,350) — don’t miss out on getting your scholarship, too! Criteria for applying: enrollment in a COCC degree or certificate program for Fall term 2020; have a 2.0 GPA or higher; and, complete a 2020-21 FAFSA or ORSAA by July 1. Incoming students must submit recent high school or college transcripts.

Utilizing Veterans education benefits? Please be sure to request certification for your classes for Summer term. If you have any questions, contact or call 541-383-7264.

The Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs has released a new grant titled the Veteran Educational Bridge Grant. Under this program, eligible student veterans who are unable to complete their degree program within the expected completion period, due to the timing of course offerings, may be eligible for additional funding. Click here for more information.

Take a peek at COCC’s health care careers through a one-hour virtual info session. Find out more about the dental assistant, massage therapist, medical assistant, vet tech and pharmacy tech programs at a July 15 info session.
