HEY BOBCATS!
Summer temperatures are finally rising up—a sweet time of year for boaters and floaters.
But something less desirable has been on the rise, too. "Over the Summer term, we’ve
seen more than 15,000 phishing and work-from-home scam emails sent to COCC employees
and students," Wesley Dymond, information security administrator, tells Bobcat eNews.
Phishing emails are emails pretending to be from an IT department or some other trusted
entity. They’ll indicate that your account has a problem, and if you click the link
in the email and login, they'll steal your password and use your email account to
send phishing emails. The work-from-home scam requests your name, address, phone and
sometimes bank information—all to be used for nefarious purposes. They may even issue
a false paycheck: After the work is performed, they simply report the check as fraudulent
and the funds are eliminated.
"While ITS and InfoSec work hard to thwart cyber criminals, the best defense against
malicious emails is critical thinking," adds Dymond. Any suspicious emails, he says,
should be forwarded to: abuse@cocc.edu. IMPORTANT DATES AND DEADLINES

The 2019-20 FAFSA and ORSAA are available for students who plan to attend COCC between July 1, 2019,
and June 30, 2020. Early submissions have the best chance to receive the maximum aid.
Students not eligible to complete the FAFSA may apply for the ORSAA. A completed ORSAA is required for students who may be eligible for the Oregon Opportunity
Grant, Oregon Promise, OSAC scholarships and the COCC Foundation Scholarship. Attend
a workshop for help.
FALL TERM PRIORITY DEADLINE If you are attending Fall term, Financial Aid will give priority consideration to
those students completing and submitting their requirements by August 15. ACADEMIC RESOURCES COLLEGE CATALOG GOES ONLINE COCC is excited to announce that the catalog is now online! View all programs and courses and learn about guidelines for enrollment, financial
aid, and student support services, among other general information. A few reasons
