Introduction to Machine Shop
This is a great place to start learning metal fabrication and the use of machine tools. Gain skills using hand tools, band saw, drill press, metal lathe, milling machines and more. Create assigned projects with oversight and instruction from the Redmond COCC Manufacturing and Applied Technology faculty. All students new to the MATC facility are required to attend class lecture on Monday and Wednesday of first week from 5:45pm-9:55 for shop safety, orientation and an introduction to the MATC self-paced environment. Special topics such as the use of specific tools taught throughout the course. Class includes open shop hours Monday through Thursday, 9:00am to 8:00 so students can work as their schedule allows. No class 1/16.  Liability form required.

Electronics for Beginners
This is a perfect opportunity for anyone interested in electronics. This class will start with the basics and take you through advanced applications such as solving current-voltage-resistance-impedance problems, making power calculations and more. No prior technical knowledge is required. Required textbook: Teach Yourself Electricity and Electronics, 6th Edition. This book is not available at the COCC Bookstore but can be purchased from a company of your choice. Solder School
Explore the most common types of soldering required for electronic work in this hands-on class. Practice the basics of surface mount soldering for professional applications. 3D Printing: Ready, Set, Go!
This workshop will introduce students to the world of 3D printing. Explore the various types of 3D printers from commercially available machines to kits. The choices of materials that can be printed will be discussed along with the applications from prototyping to end product.  Examine the many tools available to create printable objects as well as the vast array of downloadable objects on the internet. Students will have the opportunity to set up and print a small object as a take away. At the end of this workshop, students will have a clear understanding of what this developing industry is all about and how it might be useful personally and professionally, and how to access this technology in Central Oregon.

NEW! Woodworking: Mortise and Tenon Joinery 
Sharpen your woodworking skills! Whether you are a hand-tool or power-tool user, starting your first project or looking to push yourself to the next level, this is the class for you. Learn about shop safety, sharpening, tool use and maintenance, wood selection and more. This winter course will focus on mortise and tenon joinery. Students will learn four different ways to make a mortise and tenon joint while making a small table. Project options include an end table, coffee table or night stand. Take advantage of this opportunity to work in a generously equipped woodshop alongside an instructor who has extensive experience and the tool collection of a professional furniture maker.
