TERM PROJECT

Aloha!  I would like to introduce myself, my name is Ramona Mahealani Kaloi.  I am a student at Central Oregon Community College and Eastern Oregon University.  I am presently finishing up my Associate of Arts degree at COCC.  I am also working towards a degree in Multidisciplinary Education, with a minor in English.

This past fall I took a Methods of Tutoring class with Greg Lyons and did a final term project on reading and writing for children with ADD/ADHD.  My interest in this subject carried over into winter term, at which time I took a linguistics class with Marj Hoye.  My final term project for her class was more focused on spelling, with some emphasis on reading and writing.  I am currently doing a research paper for my Wr 123 class with Rise Quay and decided I would continue my research in the topic of reading comprehension—reading, writing, and spelling.

I feel that this is a very important subject for a few reasons.  I am a mother and a Grandmother, therefore I want to make sure that my children have an advantage to succeeding in their education.  If I can help make a difference in their learning, I want to know what I need to do as a parent.  As I mentioned earlier, I am working towards a Multidisciplinary Education degree and I plan to teach grades K – 3.  As a future teacher, I feel that research in programs for reading comprehension—reading, writing, and spelling will help prepare me in that specific area.  I plan to continue my research in this topic area and would like to implement this information in my student teaching, and for a Thesis project.  I hope that my annotated bibliography will be useful for others students that are doing research projects for various education, writing, and literature classes.

a hui hou!
