Saipan

Northern Marianas

Saipan is a small island a couple hundred miles north of Guam- population 62,000.  I traveled there from twice, from Guam, and had excellent experiences.  The second time I went I traveled with a group of friends that were locals so I got a real taste of the culture as an insider rather than a tourist.  Spending time with the Saipan kids was surprisingly similar to being with my group of friends in Oregon.  Much of WWII was fought on Saipan and remains are still littered across the island and the sea.
