Scholarship Program

“A scholarship literally makes the difference in students attending COCC; it changes their life forever, it is a gift and an investment.”

In 2013-14, the COCC Foundation provided more than $1 million in scholarships and program support to COCC.

Annual scholarships can be renewed
up to two times for students who meet the requirements

The COCC Foundation awards scholarships to students attending classes in Bend, Madras, Prineville and Redmond

The COCC Foundation Scholarship process is competitive and rigorous:

  • All applicants complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which gives an objective measure of their financial circumstances.
  • All applicants answer three narrative questions that cover adversities they have overcome and leadership roles they have carried; financial circumstances they are facing; and their goals
    and aspirations.
  • Each narrative is anonymously reviewed by three different community volunteers and the scores are averaged.
  • The scores for the FAFSA and the narratives are merged and
    then ranked.

Each year, the COCC Foundation awards as many scholarships as possible, based on available funds, to the highest scoring students.

Success is in the numbers. Compared to the
general COCC student population, scholarship recipients…

Complete 39% more credits per term, 10.7 vs. 7.7

Have a 19% higher grade point average, 3.31 vs. 2.78

Go on to complete certificates or degrees at much higher rates, 70% vs. 47%

Scholarships Change Lives

The most impactful way to fully understand how receiving a scholarship changes lives is to read the words directly from the students. Here are some of their stories.

The COCC Foundation thanks the businesses, organizations and individuals who gave directly to scholarships during 2013.
