This course will explore developments in the American novel after WWII. 

Four Required Texts:Salinger/Catcher in the Rye
Morrison/The Bluest Eye
Silko/Ceremony

The above texts will be available in the bookstore.  You have a choice of one of the following as your 4th text.  Books are readily available at local bookstores (Book Barn is downtown; The Open Book, a used bookstore, is on Greenwood near 2nd St., and Barnes and Noble is near Costco) or online at http://www.powellsbooks.com, http://www.barnesandnoble.com, http://www.amazon.com

Course Requirements:

Four 4+ page Essays -----------------------------------------------------------------50%

Seminar Leader (lead class discussion-on a critical essay related to the novel)---- 10%

Final Project (Annotated Bibliography and Introductory Essay)-----------30%

In Class Participation (includes in class writing, which cannot be made up, final project bibliography, oral presentation)------------------------------------------10%
