Concert Nov. 20

COCC's vocal jazz ensemble, the Central Singers, will perform at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, at COCC’s Pinckney Center for the Arts. James W. Knox, assistant professor of music at COCC, directs. Tickets are $3 and will be available at the door.

Central Singers is a select group of 16 singers that sing all facets in today’s jazz idiom. Music ranges from ballads to funk bringing all different type of styles.

The  group has been preparing Michael Jackson’s Thriller ala vocal jazz style by the arranger Kerry Marsh, vocal jazz educator from Sacramento State, California, which will be the center focus to Friday’s concert. The song will also include a dub in of Vincent Price’s famous voice in the original Thriller video done back in the 1980s. A video clip from the popular song will also be playing  on a screen behind the group.

Other features will be Duran Duran’s "Ordinary World," Billy Joel’s "And So It Goes," popular British pop-star Jamie Cullum’s "Mind Trick" and "Get your Way."  The jazz combo, which is part of the ensemble, will also feature some jazz standards.
