Spot Landing

Spot landings are the most common form of landing used in the woods. Landing size depends on many factors; but in general, the larger the landing, the more economical the log handling. This, however, may be in direct conflict with land management considerations and forest practice regulations dealing with erosion hazards and ground disturbance which usually limit landing size. Also safety regulations tend to push for larger landing sizes.

Spot landings are usually constructed where earth movement will not be excessive and cuts and fills are limited in volume and depth.

Landings must be located and arranged to complement the yarding system.
