Choker Hooks/Bells

The ends of the choker have swaged on steel ferrules (the cyclindrical or bullet like objects at each end). A sliding hook or bell is used to provide the "noose effect" to choke the log when the choker is set correctly. The type of hook depends on how the choker is to be arrayed or hooked to the winch line or carriage. If the logs are to be hooked separately to the bull hook or carriage, there will be a loop on one end of the choker. In ground skidding, the line from the winch will often be set up to facilitate slide rigging.

Belwo are several types of hooks shown and the series of illustrations on the left indicate the use of the tight slide hook.
