Technology Lending Policy

  • You must be current COCC or OSU-Cascades student, faculty, or staff to check out the technology equipment and accessories.
  • You must present a valid student ID and official government-issued ID (driver's license, DMV-issued ID card, passport, or military ID) each time you wish to check out any of the technology equipment.
  • The first time you check out a piece of technology equipment, you must sign a check out information sheet to ensure that you understand your responsibility for these items while they are in your possession. Stolen, lost or damaged items will result in a replacement charge equal to the cost of the item, plus a processing fee of $15. The cost of these items ranges greatly, from $10 (2 GB flash drive) to $2,000 (laptops). You are responsible for the safety and security of the item while it is in your possession. If a laptop or camera is lost, damaged (even by accident), or stolen while in your possession, you will be responsible for the replacement cost.
  • Equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations will be taken. The Kindles, iPads, and Xoom can be requested via the Library catalog, but you cannot reserve them for a specific time.
  • You must return the equipment to the circulation desk during the Library's open hours. Do not use the bookdrop, as this can cause damage to the technology equipment.
  • When the item is due back, be sure to return all of the cords, cables, chargers and cases that came with the equipment you checked out. The equipment will not be checked in until all pieces are present. You will be responsible for any overdue fines incurred until the return is made complete.
  • Upon return, Library staff will inspect equipment to make sure that all pieces (including all cords, chargers, etc.) are present and in good working order. Allow a few minutes for the return inspection.

Privacy

Be mindful of your privacy when using this loaner equipment!

  • As when working on any public computer, you should not save any passwords on the Library's technology equipment. Before returning the equipment, log out of any applications or accounts you've logged into (e.g., Facebook, email, Amazon, Google) while using the equipment.
  • Neither the laptops, tablets, Kindles, nor cameras automatically delete documents, accounts, notes, or images you've created while using them. Before returning the item, clear it of anything you've saved or created.
