K-12 School Visits
Are you a College Now (dual enrollment) teacher? See our College Now Library Services page for additional information specific to your students.
Middle & high school teachers are welcome to bring classes to the Barber Library. Before you come, here are a few helpful things to know:
- Contact us ahead of time. This allows us to prepare for your visit; schedule any preliminary meetings; and help you get computer log ins, library card applications, etc. for your class. Call or email Mary Beth Hamilton at (541) 383-7564 or email@example.com to schedule your visit.
- We don't provide tours or instructional sessions to groups of middle or high school students, but we are very happy to schedule a preliminary meeting with teachers for 30-60 minutes to prepare teachers for their visit. Teachers will be able to meet with a librarian, tour the campus library themselves and review circulation policies. These meetings are not mandatory in advance of class visits but can be helpful in orienting teachers to Barber Library resources.
- Students may get a library card if they are 16 or older and have a valid photo ID with them on the day of the visit. The Library does not issue cards to individuals younger than 16 years old unless they are currently enrolled in COCC courses.
- Public parking (no permit required) is available in the Library lot on the North side of the building and on College Way.
We would also like to encourage middle and high school students and teachers to work with their school libraries and librarians to access to a wide selection of OSLIS (Oregon School Library Information System) databases. OSLIS is provided by the Oregon State Library and offers free access to online article and information databases to middle and high school students.
