LIB 227 Outcomes

The student who successfully completes LIB 227 will...

  1. Understand the difference between information and knowledge, the different characteristics of information (factual, analytical, subjective, objective), and the implications of living in an 'information society' (Unit 1).
  2. Understand the nature of information cycle, the differences among primary, secondary, and tertiary sources, and the characteristics of scholarly journal publishing (Unit 2).
  3. Get exposed to the basics of library research with an emphasis on selection of research tools based on  the nature of different research needs (Unit 3).
  4. Gain familiarity with Web 2.0 and social networking including trends and implications of living in a social networking environment (Unit 4).
  5. Be able to define and identify issues of plagiarism along with the need to cite sources using the appropriate citation guidelines (Unit 5).
