- Understand the difference between information and knowledge, the different characteristics of information (factual, analytical, subjective, objective), and the implications of living in an 'information society' (Unit 1).
- Understand the nature of information cycle, the differences among primary, secondary, and tertiary sources, and the characteristics of scholarly journal publishing (Unit 2).
- Get exposed to the basics of library research with an emphasis on selection of research tools based on the nature of different research needs (Unit 3).
- Gain familiarity with Web 2.0 and social networking including trends and implications of living in a social networking environment (Unit 4).
- Be able to define and identify issues of plagiarism along with the need to cite sources using the appropriate citation guidelines (Unit 5).
