Sara Pohle

While participating in Bend High School’s “School to Work” program, Sara Pohle discovered her interest in dental assisting. “But being a young person, I really didn't take it very seriously,” she recalls. Later, after many years in retail sales, she decided to follow her earlier interest in the dental field.

“I decided to attend COCC because I have two little boys, and I want a career that will allow us to afford to send them to college when the time comes,” she says. “My motivation is purely my children.”

Sara says she was very nervous about taking college classes: “I didn’t do so well in high school. My experience at COCC has been really good; everyone is helpful and encouraging.”

Through an email from COCC, she learned that Foundation scholarships were available. “The scholarship has made my life a lot easier,” says Sara. “It has also really helped when my husband was laid off. We have appreciated it very much.”

Sara plans to transfer to Lane Community College this fall.
