Royce Schlenker
Computer and Information Systems Instructor
COCC Madras Campus
For Royce Schlenker, a self-described people person, 32 years teaching and coaching in the public schools of Montana and Oregon just wasn’t enough. After he retired from teaching computer applications in the Jefferson County School District, he signed on as a COCC computer and information systems (CIS) instructor when the Madras Campus opened in the fall of 2011.
Describing his teaching style, Royce explains, "I present questions and information in such a way that the students are a part of the solution. This is accomplished through peer-to-peer problem solving, discussions, hands-on projects and group projects. I believe we learn best by actively participating in the desired outcome."
Summing up his nearly three and half decades in the classroom, Royce says, "Some of the most rewarding experiences I have had in my life have been through my career in teaching."
