Jim Kress found that while working as a manager, one of his favorite parts of his job was the weekly training meetings. Teaching just seemed like a natural fit for him; he joined the COCC faculty in 1988.
"I can see a direct connection between what we are doing in the classroom and students' professional and personal growth. Plus there is the advantage of helping local businesses with many of the challenges they face... it's the "community" in community college!
"I am so fortunate to be able to be a teacher. I am still learning every day and love to pass that learning on to students. Every day I get to see the light go on in students' minds as they learn new things. What could be more rewarding than watching people develop skills in a dynamic, ever-changing field that will last them a lifetime?
"Many students face so many challenges in coming to school. Seeing them succeed is so rewarding. Being a small part of that success and having them walk across the stage at graduation each June is as good as it gets for me."
