 Week 2 (9/25-29)  Finish Beowulf (60-99); The Wanderer; The Battle of Maldon

Week 3 (10/2-6) The later middle ages (7-18); Gawain and the Green Knight (156-181 & 199-210); Chaucer, General Prologue to The Canterbury Tales; The Nun’s Priest’s Tale.

Week 4 (10/9-13) Julian of Norwich, Showings (355-238 & 361-362); Everyman; Mallory, Morte Darthur. First Test Thursday

Week 5 (10/16-20) The Sixteenth Century; Anne Askew, John Foxe; Surrey, The soote season, Also! So all things, O happy dames; Spenser, The Faerie Queene, Intro and Bk1, Canto 1; Ralegh, The nymph’s reply; Sidney, Sonnets from Astrophil and Stella (select 5); Mary (Sidney) Herbert, To the Angel Spirit First Homework essay due Thursday

Week 6 (10/23-27) Begin Marlow, Dr. Faustus

Week 7(10/30-11/3) Finish Dr. Faustus

Week 8 (11/6-10) (Friday Holiday) Shakespeare, Sonnets ; Second Test Tuesday

 Week 9 (11/13-17) Shakespeare, Twelfth Night

Week 10 (11/20-24) (Thursday and Friday Holidays) Finish Twelfth Night; turn in proposed questions for essay portion of final exam.  Second Homework Essay Due Tuesday

 Week 11(11/27-12/1)  Donne (selected sonnets); develop topics for essay portion of final examination 

Final Examination Week: Final examination in your usual classroom, Tuesday, Dec. 5 10:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.   Bring at least one "Blue Book" examination booklet (buy from the C.O.C.C. bookstore)
