Is the IBD General Certificate in Brewing for You?
The GBC is designed for candidates who may have little or no formal academic or technical qualification. Typically, a candidate is employed as a senior operator or team leader in a brewery or packaging plant; however, the scope of this examination will enable candidates from smaller brewing operations to obtain this recognized qualification. This examination measures basic knowledge (theoretical and practical) of brewing, packaging and associated operations and is open to anyone with interest in brewing (who is dedicated to studying). The General Certificate in Brewing can be an end in itself, or the start of professional development career, leading to the Diploma in Brewing (Dipl.Brew) and potentially, the Master Brewer (M.Brew) examinations.

For more detailed course content, see the IBD General Certificate in Brewing Syllabus  (pdf).

About the Course
The COCC course is a combination of online, self-study and weekend classroom sessions including lecture, guest speakers and learning tours. On-site classroom sessions will be scheduled as weekend intensives (Saturday all day, Sunday half-days) so participants from outside Central Oregon can attend. Course dates for weekend intensives are tentatively planned in the months of January, February, March and April, 2014. Final details will be determined by October, 2013.

Course Costs
The course fee is still under development and will be finalized by October, 2013. For planning purposes, the fee inclusive of online lessons, study materials, classroom sessions, learning tours and exam fee is estimated at $1850. Please note that lodging (if needed) and meals are not included in this price.

Instructors
Online learning material has been developed by an IBD accredited instructor. Classroom instructors and guest speakers are craft brewing professionals and subject matter experts who will reinforce online and self-study content through examples of practical application and learning tours.
