Assessment at COCC is intended to inform planning and decision-making throughout the institution and offers evidence on the quality of learning, teaching and service the college supports and provides.
At COCC, assessment responsibilities are distributed among the various departments and programs with the intent that the same guiding principles are applied:
- Outcomes are articulated
- Indicators are established to support evaluation of outcomes
- Progress is measured with data collected
- Results guide decision making and support continuous improvement
In support of the College's assessment efforts, and in accordance with new accreditation standards, the COCC Board of Directors approved the following four core themes on December 9, 2009.
- Transfer and Articulation
- Workforce Development
- Basic Skills
- Lifelong Learning
A core theme demonstrates a fundamental aspect of institutional mission and facilitates the establishment of objectives to guide planning of programs and services; development of capacity and application of resources to meet the objectives; and enhancement of assessment methods to measure progress towards fulfilling the core theme.
