Preregister by Sept. 25

COCC and The Language Door are sponsoring two deaf communication workshops targeting Native American populations. Both will be held in the Grandview Student Center on the Bend campus. The preregistration deadline is Sept. 25.

Mark “White Buffalo” Azure and Teresa Norris will present “No Ear. No Hand. We Still Walk the Same Path” from 5:45 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3. This workshop will focus on awareness and understanding of communication access for deaf Native peoples, and how they can be included in traditional Native activities and ceremonies. This workshop, open to all, will be presented in American Sign Language and interpreters will be provided.

Azure and Norris will also present “Interpreting in Native Communities and Indian Sign Language” from 8:45 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4. This workshop is designed for interpreters and deaf community members, and will focus on Native American traditional heritage and culture. Interpreters will not be provided.
