The Central Oregon Community College Foundation’s Nancy R. Chandler Visiting Scholar Program is presenting a lecture by Nontombi Naomi Tutu. She will present “The Legacy of Apartheid: Reflections on the Transformation of South Africa,” at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Pinckney Center for the Arts on the COCC Bend campus. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Donations at the door will be appreciated.

The belief that there is still much to accomplish in post-apartheid South Africa motivates Naomi Tutu to share her experiences and insight with audiences around the world. As the daughter of Archbishop Desmond and Nomalizo Leah Tutu, she has a unique and inside perspective on the people and forces that have shaped ― and continue to shape ― South Africa.

Tutu has worked as a development consultant in West Africa and coordinated programs on race and gender at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. In addition, she has taught at Hartford and Connecticut universities and Brevard College in North Carolina along with leading Truth and Reconciliation Workshops for groups dealing with different types of conflict. Tutu earned bachelor’s degrees in economics and French and a master’s degree in International Economic Development.

The program is presented by the Nancy R. Chandler Visiting Scholar Program of the COCC Foundation in collaboration with the Cascade Conference on Successful Aging and the City Club of Central Oregon.
