Immunizations, Background Check and CPR Requirements

Required Immunizations - All immunizations below are required unless students sign a religious/medical exemption waiver. Practicum sites may not accept students that have not met immunization requirements.

Hepatitis B series- The first of this three-part series needs to be completed prior to entering the program Fall Term. Because low cost clinics such as the health department are often booked quite a few weeks out, it is recommended that students make this first appointment as soon as they know they have been accepted into the program. The second injection is given four weeks after the first, and needs to be completed by the end of Fall Term. The third injection is completed four months after the first, and needs to be completed before the end of Winter Term.

MMR- Documentation of two MMR immunizations, or a titer indicating immunity, need to be completed by Fall term. If you don’t have documentation of childhood immunizations, you should start these immunizations or obtain a titer before entering the program.

TB- Documentation of a recent TB test is required during prior to Fall term. TB tests are good for one year. If yours expires before you finish the program, you will need to repeat it.

Varicella- at least one chickenpox vaccination or titer indication immunity prior to entering the program.

tdap- at least one pertussis immunization as an adult prior to entering the program

Background Check- You will be required to order and pay for a background check prior to Fall term. See the registration instruction link for specific instructions as to how and when this should be done. The cost is approximately $55.

CPR requirement- Students must take HHP 252A or HHP 252 and receive CPR and First Aid cards to meet the CPR requirement. This must be completed no later than the end of Winter term. CPR certification is usually good for two years.

The Deschutes County Health Department has partnered with us to offer a special immunization session for Health Career students only. Certain requirements must be met. Please click here, Immunization Clinic, for more information and dates.
