Roller Ski Test
This test if designed for skiers with advanced roller skiing
skills.
Safety: a specialized harness will be worn to ensure your safety
throughout the test and support you at completion.
Roller skis provided by Webskis and poles are also
provided. You only need to bring your own XC ski boots (we can
accommodate Salomon and NNN).
We want this
to be a fun, valuable experience for you, in order to do that we
will begin by answering questions and addressing any concerns you
may have. We will then ask you to read and sign the informed
consent to ensure that you understand the VO2max/Lactate evaluation
. Prior to the roller ski test, we will obtain your height, weight,
body fat, resting lactate, and heart rate data.
The entire roller ski test is completed in striding classical
style. It consists of continuous 3-minute stages and lasts between
18 and 24 minutes. The initial stages are an easy effort on the
treadmill. At the end of each stage, a small blood sample will be
taken to measure blood lactate values. We also continuously monitor
your heart rate and rate of perceived exertion (RPE). The test
gradually increases in effort using speed and grade until the
client feels he/she can no longer continue. You will cool-down on
the treadmill for 4 minutes in order for us to obtain a final
lactate sample and heart rate recovery data.
Upon successful completion of the VO2max test, it takes
approximately 15 minutes for the physiologist to graph and
interpret the data from your test. You can continue to cool down
during this time if you would like. You may also want to bring a
set of dry clothes to stay warm during our discussion of
results.
The client will then have approximately 30 minutes for a
consultation that covers body composition and ideal weight goals,
lactate threshold, VO2max, and individual training zones.
