Work-Study Orientation part 4 - Working

Can I work more than one job?
Students may work more than one job at COCC through the FWS Program.  The total hours between the two positions cannot exceed the total work award.  Students with two positions will need to have a Work-Study Referral Form completed for each position.

Example:  Jane has been awarded $2700 in work-study funding.  She is able to work one job
at 8 hours a week  OR  work two positions of 4 hours each.

Dress Code
Students should discuss with their supervisors the appropriate attire for their working environment.  Students must comply with standards of dress established for safety or health reasons. Supervisors will inform students of the department dress code standards they expect the students to follow.  There are established guidelines that student employees should follow:

  • Shoes must be worn at all times unless otherwise specified by the supervisor.
  • No bathing suits, tube tops or halter tops.
  • Shirts must be worn at all times.
  • Shorts are allowed with approval of the supervisor but should be the appropriate length.

Work Breaks
Students who work a specific amount of time are entitled to a break and/or lunch.

Job Problems
Student who have problems with their job (i.e. work schedule, job expectations, not enough hours, conflicts with supervisor) need to discuss them first with their supervisor.  If the problem persists after the discussion, contact the Work-Study Coordinator or the CAP Center.

Confidentiality
Some student employees must deal with confidential information in the performance of their duties.  This information can not be discussed or made available to anyone without the proper approval of the supervisor.  If a student shares confidential information with any unauthorized person,  he/she will be immediately dismissed from the job.  Supervisors may require a student to sign a confidentiality agreement.

It is extremely important to acknowledge the shared responsibility between the student and the supervisor to monitor a student's earnings.
