Work-Study Orientation part 2 - Student Eligibility

Participation in the Federal Work-Study Program is awarded to eligible students as part of a financial aid package which is based on financial need.  Since financial aid packages are reviewed and revised annually, student eligibility and earnings limits may change from one academic year to the next.

Every student who is offered a work-study award is given an earnings limit, as indicated on the student's financial aid award. This is the maximum amount a student may earn from the Work-Study Program (before taxes) during the academic year.

Whenever a student's award is changed, a revised financial aid award notice is sent to the student. It is the responsibility of the student to notify the supervisor of any changes in his/her work-study award.  Student work schedules should be adjusted as soon as possible to prevent earnings in excess of the work-study award.

It is extremely important to acknowledge the shared responsibility between the student and the supervisor to monitor a student's earnings.

Most students work an average of 8-10 hours per week however, the Work-Study Referral Form will specifically state the maximum amount students may earn each term.  Students may work as many hours as the supervisor allows but should not exceed 15 hours a week.  During times that classes are not in session, students may work beyond the recommended 15 hours a week. It is the student’s and supervisor’s responsibility to monitor work-study earnings.
